Baraclude® (Entecavir) 1 mg – Antiviral for Chronic Hepatitis B

Overview

Baraclude® (Entecavir) is a potent antiviral medication indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)infection in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older.
Developed and manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb, Entecavir is a selective inhibitor of HBV DNA polymerase, effectively suppressing viral replication and reducing HBV DNA levels in the bloodstream.

Indications

• Chronic hepatitis B infection in adults with:
  • Evidence of active viral replication
  • Elevated serum ALT levels
  • Histologically active liver inflammation
• Patients resistant to lamivudine

Dosage and Administration

• Standard dose: 0.5 mg once daily on an empty stomach
• For lamivudine-resistant patients: 1 mg once daily on an empty stomach
• Take at least 2 hours before or after meals.
  Duration of therapy depends on the patient’s clinical and virological response.

Side Effects

Common: headache, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, insomnia.
Rare: lactic acidosis and hepatic dysfunction during long-term therapy.

Precautions

• Use under medical supervision only.
• Dose adjustment may be required for renal impairment.
• Do not discontinue treatment abruptly to avoid viral rebound.
