Colistin TZF is a drug used to treat severe infections caused by colistin-sensitive bacteria (sodium colistimethate). The antibiotic colistin TZF is used by inhalation to treat chronic lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis.
Composition
The active substance is sodium colistimethate (colistin).
1 bottle contains 1 million (approx. 80 mg) IU of sodium colistimethate.
Dosage
The doctor will determine the dose of the drug and the duration of treatment depending on the severity of the infection, the sensitivity of the microorganism causing the infection, the patient's health status, age and body weight.
This drug is prescribed by a specialist - the patient does not use it on his own.
This drug is used intravenously or vaginally, in divided doses or by inhalation, depending on the indications.
The doctor may decide to change the dose depending on the patient's state of health. If you are taking other inhalation medications, your doctor will tell you in which order to take them.
Action
Colistin TZF is an antibiotic related to polymyxins-it has antibacterial activity directed against gram-negative bacteria. Colistin is active against m.in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae.
Indications

Contraindications
This medicine is not used in patients with allergies to sodium colistimethate, colistin or other antibiotics from the polymyxin group.
Side effects
The use of colistin may be associated with the occurrence of side effects that will not occur in everyone who uses this medicine.
Among the side effects mentioned are m.in dizziness, speech disorders, visual disturbances, confusion, psychosis, apnea, allergic skin rashes, kidney disorders, irritation at the injection site, fever.
If inhaled, bronchospasm, sore throat, sore mouth, yeast infection, skin rash may occur.
Warnings and precautions
The drug should be used with caution and discussed with a doctor accordingly if there is or occurs: renal dysfunction, myasthenia gravis, Porphyria, asthma. Inhalation use may be accompanied by m.in breathing disorders, chest tightness. When using this medicine, it is recommended to monitor the blood test.
Use of other medicines
Inform your doctor about all medications that the patient is currently or recently taking, as well as medications that the patient plans to take.
Colistin TZF can interact with drugs that have adverse effects on the kidneys (for example, aminoglycosides), drugs that affect the nervous system, muscle relaxants, drugs used for general anesthesia.
The combined intake of Colistins and antibiotics in the form of macrolides/fluoroquinolones increases the risk of muscle weakness and difficulty breathing.
