Description

Imipenem and Cilastatin Injection I.P. 500 mg is a broad-spectrum antibiotic for intravenous use.
Each vial contains:

• Imipenem 500 mg — a carbapenem antibiotic,
• Cilastatin 500 mg — a dehydropeptidase-I inhibitor that prevents renal metabolism of imipenem.

Pharmacological Action

The combination acts synergistically to kill a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
Cilastatin increases the stability and efficacy of imipenem by inhibiting its enzymatic breakdown in the kidneys.

Indications

Indicated for the treatment of severe infections, including:

• Lower respiratory tract infections (including pneumonia)
• Complicated urinary tract infections
• Intra-abdominal and gynecological infections
• Skin, soft tissue, bone and joint infections
• Sepsis and mixed bacterial infections

Dosage and Administration

• For intravenous infusion only.
• Usual adult dose: 500 mg every 6 hours, adjusted according to severity and renal function.
• Reconstitute with sterile diluent as per manufacturer’s directions before use.

Side Effects

Common: nausea, vomiting, rash, diarrhea, injection site pain.
Serious (rare): seizures, hypersensitivity reactions, or liver dysfunction.

Storage

Store below 25 °C in a dry place, away from direct light.
Keep out of reach of children.
