Product Overview

Lederfolin 15 mg contains Calcium Folinate (Leucovorin), a biologically active form of folic acid (Vitamin B9).
It is widely used in oncology and supportive therapy to reduce the toxicity of Methotrexate and to enhance the efficacy of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in certain chemotherapy regimens.

Calcium Folinate acts as a “rescue agent,” protecting healthy cells from the harmful effects of folate antagonists without reducing the anti-tumor activity of the main treatment.

Therapeutic Indications

• Methotrexate Rescue Therapy: Prevents or reduces toxicity caused by high-dose Methotrexate.
• Methotrexate Overdose: Used as an antidote to counteract adverse effects.
• Combination Chemotherapy: Potentiates the effect of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in the treatment of colorectal and other cancers.
• Folate Deficiency Anemia: May be used in the management of megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency.

Mechanism of Action

Lederfolin supplies the reduced form of folic acid (5-formyltetrahydrofolate), which bypasses metabolic blocks caused by folate antagonists.
This supports DNA and RNA synthesis, enabling normal cell recovery during cytotoxic therapy.

Dosage & Administration

• Oral dose: Usually 15–30 mg every 6 hours, depending on the chemotherapy protocol.
• Dosage and timing must be determined by a qualified oncologist.
• Available also in injectable forms for IV or IM administration in hospital settings.

Side Effects

Lederfolin is generally well tolerated. Possible mild effects include:

• Nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort
• Fatigue or dizziness
• Allergic reactions (rare)

Contraindications
