Product description

Madopar is a classic combination of levodopa with benserazide - a peripherally acting dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor. Benserazide prevents levodopa from converting to dopamine outside the brain, so more of the active molecule reaches the central nervous system and dose-related nausea is reduced.

The L100 formulation contains 100 mg of levodopa per tablet, which allows flexible titration: the physician adjusts the number of tablets per dose rather than switching formulations. Madopar has been used in Parkinson disease therapy for over four decades and remains one of the reference levodopa combinations worldwide.

This Japanese version by Taiyo Pharmaceutical is produced to Japanese Pharmacopoeia standards. Prescription-only medicine.

Dosage and administration

The dose is strictly individual and set by the physician: typically treatment starts with a low dose and is titrated by response. Tablets are taken during or after meals to reduce nausea. Do not stop or change the scheme without medical advice.

FAQ

What is the difference between Madopar and Sinemet?

Both combine levodopa with a decarboxylase inhibitor: Madopar uses benserazide, Sinemet uses carbidopa. Some patients tolerate one combination better than the other - the choice is made by the neurologist.

Is Japanese Madopar the same as the European one?

Same active ingredients and ratios (4:1). The L100 version corresponds to the classic Madopar 100/25. Manufacturer and packaging differ.

Can it be split or crushed?

How long does it take to work?
