Pharmacological Action

Riluzole is a neuroprotective agent that modulates glutamatergic neurotransmission. It reduces glutamate-induced neuronal damage and slows neurodegeneration.

Indications

Used for the treatment of:

• amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Riluzole may help slow disease progression and extend survival.

Dosage and Administration

• Recommended dose: 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening)
• Take on an empty stomach or 1–2 hours before/after meals
• Duration of treatment is determined by a physician

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to riluzole
• liver disease
• pregnancy and breastfeeding

Warnings and Precautions

• Regular liver function monitoring required
• Discontinue if liver enzymes significantly increase
• Use with caution in comorbid conditions
