Sumamed 500 mg 6 tablets
Product Details
Description  Sumamed film-coated tablets are a drug from the group of macrolide antibiotics. Sumamed contains bactericidal azithromycin and is used for upper and lower respiratory tract infections, acute otitis media and STDs caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.  Composition  The active ingredient of the drug is Azithromycin.  Each film-coated tablet contains 500 mg of azithromycin (Azithromycinum) in the form of azithromycin dihydrate.  Excipients: tablet core: calcium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous, hypromellose, gelatinous starch, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate. Tablet shell: hypromellose, indigotine, varnish (E 132), titanium dioxide (E 171), polysorbate 80, talc.  Dosage  This medicine should always be used exactly as recommended by your doctor. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.  The dosage is determined by the doctor individually for the patient.  Sumamed in the form of film-coated tablets of 500 mg should be administered orally, once a day, at least an hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. The tablets should be swallowed whole.  Action  The drug Sumamed has an antibacterial effect. The bactericidal effect is provided by Azithromycin, which belongs to azalide antibiotics from the group of broad-spectrum macrolides.  Indications  The indication for the use of the antibiotic Sumamed is the treatment of infections caused by microbes sensitive to azithromycin. These are: upper respiratory tract infections (bacterial pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis), acute otitis media, lower respiratory tract infection (acute bronchitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, mild to moderate pneumonia, also parenchymatous environment), skin and soft tissue infections (Rose, impetigo, secondary purulent dermatitis, erythema migrans), uncomplicated infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.  Contraindications  Sumamed should not be used by people who are sensitive to azithromycin, erythromycin or other macrolide or ketolide antibiotics or any of the other components.  Side effects  Like any medicine, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.  Very common side effects (they may affect more than 1 in 10 patients): diarrhea  Common side effects (they may affect less than 1 in 10 patients): headache, vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea, change in white blood cell count, decreased bicarbonate levels in the blood.  Additional information in the leaflet included with the medicine.  Warnings and precautions  Before using Sumamed, consult a doctor in the case of: people with conditions that contribute to abnormal heart rhythms; kidney failure; liver dysfunction; new infections; neurological or mental disorders, symptoms of superinfection, infected burn wounds.  If diarrhea occurs, tell your doctor immediately, as this may be a symptom of pseudomembranous colitis, a complication that sometimes occurs with the use of macrolide antibiotics. This diagnosis should be considered by the physician in patients who develop diarrhea after starting treatment with azithromycin. In case of pseudomembranous colitis due to azithromycin use, it may be necessary to discontinue Sumamed and treat it accordingly. The use of agents that suppress peristalsis is contraindicated.  The drug should be kept out of the sight and reach of children.  Using other medicines  Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are currently taking, have recently taken, and about medicines you plan to take, including those obtained without a prescription.  This information is especially important if the patient is using:  medicines that affect QT intervals, such as: quinidine, porocainamide, dofetilide, amiodarone, sotalol; cisapride; terfenadine; antipsychotics; antidepressants; fluoroquinolones; antacids; oral anticoagulants, such as warfarin; ergot alkaloids, such as ergotamine; digoxin; cyclosporine; atorvastatin; rifabutin. Pregnancy and breastfeeding  If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.  The decision to use the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is made by the doctor.  Use of the drug in children and adolescents  Sumamed in the form of film-coated tablets of 500 mg is recommended for use in children only with a body weight of at least 45 kg. For the rest of the group of children, it is recommended to use azithromycin in the form of an oral suspension or tablets of 125 mg.
