Trolovol® 300 mg

Trolovol® 300 mg is a medication containing D-penicillamine, a chelating agent used to reduce copper accumulation and remove heavy metals from the body. It also has immunomodulating properties. The drug is primarily prescribed for Wilson’s disease, a genetic disorder of copper metabolism.

Indications

• Wilson’s disease (hepatolenticular degeneration)
  — reduction of copper accumulation in the liver, brain, and other tissues.
• Rheumatoid arthritis
  — when standard treatment is insufficient.
• Cystinuria
  — prevention of cystine kidney stone formation.
• Heavy metal poisoning
  — mercury, lead, etc. (as prescribed by a physician).

• Film-coated tablets

Pharmacological effects

D-penicillamine:

• chelates copper and removes it from tissues;
• binds heavy metals such as mercury and lead;
• reduces inflammation and autoimmune activity in rheumatoid arthritis;
• decreases cystine stone formation.

Administration

Dosage is individualized:

• For Wilson’s disease — often long-term or lifelong therapy.
• For rheumatoid arthritis — gradual dose titration until effective response.

Tablets should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to D-penicillamine
• Agranulocytosis
• Aplastic anemia
• Severe bone marrow suppression
• Pregnancy (unless specifically indicated)
• Active systemic lupus erythematosus

Side effects

• Rash and allergic reactions
• Blood disorders
• Proteinuria
• Joint pain
• Digestive disturbances

Regular monitoring of blood and urine is required.
