X-VIR (Entecavir 0.5 mg / 1 mg) — Natco Pharma

X-VIR is an antiviral medication produced by Natco Pharma Ltd. (India) containing the active ingredient Entecavir.
It is used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults.

Pharmacological Action

Entecavir is a potent and selective inhibitor of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase.
It suppresses viral replication by blocking reverse transcription, DNA synthesis, and the replication of HBV.
Regular use leads to reduced viral load, normalization of ALT levels, and improvement in liver histology.

Indications

• Chronic hepatitis B infection in adults with compensated or decompensated liver disease
• Patients resistant to Lamivudine or other nucleoside analogs (under medical supervision)

Dosage Forms

• X-VIR 0.5 mg — recommended for treatment-naïve patients
• X-VIR 1 mg — indicated for Lamivudine-resistant patients or those with advanced liver disease

Dosage and Administration

• Standard dose: 0.5 mg once daily, taken on an empty stomach (at least 2 hours before or after a meal)
• For Lamivudine-resistant or decompensated patients: 1 mg once daily
• Treatment duration is long-term and determined by the treating physician based on viral response

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Entecavir or any component of the formulation
• Not recommended for children under 18 years of age
• Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly indicated by a physician

• Headache, fatigue, nausea
• Temporary increase in liver enzymes (ALT)
• Rare: dizziness, insomnia
