Rifampicin Sando — リファンピシンカプセル150mg「サンド」 — is an antibacterial medicine of the rifamycin class produced by Sandoz. It is a prescription product used under medical supervision, most often in combination therapy regimens for tuberculosis and for other infections caused by rifampicin-susceptible organisms. Treatment is always prescribed by a physician, who determines the dose and duration depending on body weight and the disease.

Capsules are typically taken once daily on an empty stomach, because food reduces the absorption of rifampicin. The course should not be interrupted or changed without consulting your doctor.

Rifampicin may colour urine, tears and sweat orange-red; this is harmless. Possible side effects include nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal discomfort and elevated liver enzymes. Tell your doctor about liver or kidney disease and about all medicines you take, since rifampicin interacts with many medicines, including oral contraceptives, anticoagulants and antidiabetic drugs. Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and sunlight, out of reach of children.
