Description

Glibenclamide Teva 5 mg is an oral antidiabetic medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood sugar levels. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, helping to reduce blood glucose.

By active ingredient (glibenclamide), it is a generic equivalent of Maninil, offering the same effectiveness and therapeutic action, produced by Teva.

Indications

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and physical activity do not provide sufficient glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration

• Taken orally, usually before meals.
• The initial dose is 2.5–5 mg daily, adjusted individually based on blood glucose response.
• Maximum daily dose is 15 mg.
• The tablet is scored to allow splitting.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to glibenclamide or other sulfonylureas.
• Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Severe liver or kidney impairment.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

Side Effects

• Most common: hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
• Others: nausea, diarrhea, headache, rash, weight gain.
• Rare: liver function disorders, changes in blood cell counts, allergic reactions.

Drug Interactions

• May enhance effects of other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol.
• Possible interactions with beta-blockers, antibiotics, and antifungal agents.
